The Neonatal Department was established in 1987 and is considered the most important center to which these children are referred from hospitals in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. The department is distinguished by its international specifications and has obtained the International Quality Certificate. The hospital is still working hard to develop the service and care provided to these children and provide the department with modern medical equipment and keep pace with scientific developments to raise the level of medical service in the department. The Neonatal Department at Al-Makassed Hospital includes the following:
Intensive Care: It accommodates about 12 beds and provides care for very critical cases.
Intermediate Care: It accommodates about 12 beds and receives stable cases from the resuscitation rooms.
Isolation: It accommodates 4 beds where special care is provided to children infected with viruses and infectious bacteria to prevent the spread of infection among children.
Milk Kitchen: Which includes a room for preparing special milk for children using advanced sterilization devices and storing breast milk.
A special room where mothers pump milk.
A nursery room for newborn and natural children, which includes 8 beds.

Dr. Hatem Khammash: Pediatric and neonatology specialist and head of the department.
