The Emergency Department

The Emergency Department at Makassed Hospital contains 24 beds and is staffed with highly-qualified medical personnel in its aim to service the needs of the surrounding community. The department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is run by doctors and nurses specially trained for emergencies and highly-experienced in emergency medicine. The Emergency Department includes several units or sections where patients are received and medical care is provided in preparation for admission to the Hospital’s various departments.
These units or sections are:
·         A small operations unit.
·         A heart resuscitation unit for adults and children.
·         A waiting ward consisting of 10 beds where patients are admitted and monitored with meticulous care.
·         A radiographic unit.
Upon the patients’ arrival to the Emergency Department, a specialised nurse sorts each case depending on its severity in order to prioritize and accelerate the treatment of patients who are in desperate and immediate need of care.

Then the patients are admitted to the Hospital’s other departments having passed through the Emergency Department following a careful screening of their medical conditions.

Doctors at the Emergency Department in Makassed Hospital are constantly developing and upgrading their skills through the attending of special seminars and internally organised training programs at the Hospital. All the department’s employees and staff are also trained in both cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and in dealing with and treating ordinary wounds and serious injuries, on a daily basis, resulting from  live ammunition, bombs, rubber bullets and all forms of severe beatings.
